Peculiarities of Normal Defecation during Defecography

Ten healthy volunteers have been undergone defecography to evaluate peculiarities of normal defecation. The anorectal angle was: 93,7 ± 5,2° in a rest; 86,8 ± 2,4° at a contraction of an anal sphincter and pelvic floor muscles; 108 ± 9,2° at straining. Anorectal junction position in the rest state was 2,9 ± 0,9 cm below the pubococcygeal line. The movement of the anorectal junction at volitional contraction of an anal sphincter was 1,2 ± 0,4 cm, the movement during straining was 2,8 ± 0,9 cm. Time of evacuation was 12,6 ± 4,2 seconds and residual volume was 16,5 ± 5,3%. There was anterior rectal wall protrusion at defecation in three women and in one there was also posterior wall protrusion. Rectal intussusception has been found in one man. The findings of the defecography, obtained in healthy volunteers should be taken into consideration when interpretation of an abnormal defecography is performed.
