Barrett Esophagus: Clinico-Morphological Correlations

Today there are no doubts concerning a connection between Barrett esophagus (BE) and cardio-esophageal cancer. In view of epidemiology of a BE for the last years, an interest to this problem has greatly increased. The questions of etiology, epidemiology, and pathology of the disease are discussed. A clinico-morphological comparisons of the various variants of a mucosa at BE are conducted. The special value is attached to a development of an intestinal metaplasia as so it results to a dysplasia and adenocarcinoma of an esophagus. On the basis of own experience authors came to a conclusion about a necessity of gastroduodenoscopy when a BE is suspected. The authors proved a periodicity of the examinations and explained a technique of histological material sampling. The special attention is given to a dysplasia at BE and its connection with esophageal adenocarcinoma. Additional markers of the malignancy from the point of morphological and endoscopic viewing are discussed.
