Abilities of a Spiral Computed Tomography with Contrast Enhancement in Differential Diagnosis of Nonorganic Retroperitoneal Tumors

Informativity of spiral computed tomography (SCT) with contrast enhancement (CE) in differential diagnostics was appreciated in 89 nonorganic retroperitoneal tumors (NRT). A comparison of the CT-findings with surgical and pathomorphological data was performed in 72 patients. As a result the diagnostic algorithm was developed which considers cases when CE can give additional information concerning not only a histogenesis of a tumor, but also a planning of a surgical procedure, and cases when CE have no diagnostic value. Authors came to conclusion, that SCT with CE is a method of choice for diagnosis of NRT as sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy of the method made 96.2%, 75% and 69% accordingly. Since in 90% NRT are subjected only to a surgical treatment, application of SCT with CE allows to visualize efficiently the vessels, to define a local spread especially at the recurrences and to find out a state of the nearby tissues in all cases.
