Role of Neuroimaging for a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (Review article)

A problem of the late age dementia is one of the basics in the modern gerontology. The social and economic significance of a dementia is caused by its prolonged and incapacitating clinical course. The most often cause of a dementia is Alzheimer's disease. In Russia about 1,4 millions suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Neuroimaging take a great part in diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. Traditionally MRI and CT have been performing to all senile patients for an exception of other causes of a cognitive drop. Functional methods, and also a volumetric MRI are getting an increasing role in recognition of the disease before its clinical manifestation. A necessity of early revealing of causes of a cognitive drop is caused by the importance of an opportune beginning of treatment. One more indication for the methods of Neuroimaging is an assessment of the efficacy of the new medications used for a retardation of a cognitive drop. The importance of this direction of the research will grow more and more in accordance with accumulation of data concerning a selective damage of the various brain centers as the disease progresses.
