Acute Abdomen (Diagnostic Imaging)

Clinical presentation of an acute abdomen resulted from many diseases. The modalities of diagnostic imaging play an important role in diagnostics of reasons of an acute abdomen and must be applied at the initial stage of the disease as soon as the first clinical signs appear. Findings at plain film X-ray and ultrasonography depend on localization of a lesion, stage and extent of a disease, involvement of near by organs, accompanied complications and blood flow disturbances. All these determine a character of clinical manifestation, weight of patient's state, x-ray and ultrasonic appearance. One should bear in mind that plain X-ray takes the leading place in diagnostics of the diseases, accompanied by pathological accumulation of air in hollow organs and outside them. Ultrasonography is more sensitive in revealing of pathological fluid in an abdomen. Knowledge about abilities of diagnostic modalities and their rational application decides a question of a choice of a adequate treatment and defines an outcome of a disease.
