The complex radiological survey including MRI, CT, 18F- FDGPET and 11CSB (Sodium butyrate)PET (11CSBPET) was performed in 57 patients with malignant recurrent astrocytic tumors (RT) aimed to assess its diagnostic and prognostic capabilities. 11CSBPET proved to have a high sensitivity (94.1%) in RT detection and allows to differentiate RT from necrosis. Values of tumor metabolic activity (T/NT ratio) defined as 18FFDGPET uptake indices (FDGUI) before the conservative therapy, had a predominant significance when prognosing a disease progress. The survival of patients with RT correlated to metabolic activity of malignancies and was in inverse dependence on FDGUI (r = −0.55).
